New Norwegian rules for small cargo vessels

The Norwegian Maritime Authority proposes a new regulation relating to building and inspection of small cargo vessels and the like. Cefor has advocated for such rules since 2000 due to the many accidents in the fish farming industry with small maintenance vessels.

The proposed rules will apply to all vessels which are not passenger or fishing vessels or barges. The consultation (in Norwegian only) can be downloaded here.

The Maritime Authority informed on 22 October that several comments they had received would require further consideration. Hence, there is a possibility there will be a second consultation, which in turn will postpone the new regulation by approximately 6 months until 1 July 2014.
