Equality in the maritime industry

On 4th of April, Cefor (represented by Daria Avdeeva and Erik Myrind from Skuld) participated in a meeting with the Norwegian Ministry of Industry, Trade and Fisheries dedicated to “Recruitment and role models”.

Representatives from different unions and organisations in the maritime sector were invited to share their thoughts on successful measures they implemented to recruit a more gender balanced workforce and creating role modes, as well as to come up with suggestions that can further improve equality for the employees.

This is a first of several meetings planned by the Ministry in preparation for memorandum of cooperation aimed at increased equality, especially gender equality, in the industry.

As earlier advised by the Ministry, the Norwegian Government has launched an equality strategy for the maritime industry last year and would like to work closely with the industry on the process.

The three other focus areas in the strategy are: A work environment for everyone, a work environment free from discrimination and harassment, and adaptive workplaces are the other three focus areas.  Cefor is supportive of the initiative and will participate in future meetings to provide further input and assistance.
